Now that I've had time to reflect....

....on the hanging of Sadaam, I think perhaps this was a more
momentous event than I realized. While legal executions are routine
here in Texas (and we like it that way, thank you very much), in other
parts of the world they are not. In fact, executions in many countries
are evidence of a lack of true justice. From an Iraqi perspective (and
perhaps even from an Arab perspective), the legal execution of Sadaam
Hussein is unprecedented and sends a ripple of hope through many
beleaguered people that true justice may even be possible for them.
   While [1]some celebrated Sadaam's departure and other's [2]reflected
on Sadaam's coming trials (in another world), Zeyad spoke of relief
for Sadaam's victims and the fear of more dark days ahead.
But Mohammed's thoughts on [3]the effects of Sadaam's hanging were
   what caused me to reconsider.

To those who didnât like justice I say that his death means life to
     many.
Executing the dictator renews the hopes of not only Iraqis but also
of other oppressed peoples in the world in having a better future
where they enjoy freedom. It's time for other tyrants to learn from
this lesson and realize that a similar fate is on the way if they
     refuse to change.
Yes, it was the people though their elected government who put
Saddam on trial and who says otherwise should go back and learn
about how Saddam humiliated, murdered and tortured Iraqis and
plundered their fortunes in his stupid adventures.
He deserved to dieâour people are still suffering from his crimes
till this moment, maybe not in person anymore but through the
murderous terrorist machine he built and expanded over years; his
orphans are still murdering our people in cold blood trying to deny
us the right to build a model of life away from the culture of
     death the dictator created.
Executing Saddam is an execution to a dark era in Iraq's history
and it's a message to all those who followed his ways that there is
no turning back; yes, the people will never kneel to a tyrant again
     and will never give up.
The future is in the hands of the people and they will choose their
way no matter how big the sacrifice is.
We have suffered too much for too long and we deserve a better life
and that we will keep pursuing.

It's possible that Sadaam's execution may have a more positive effect
on the mideast than I imagined. The idea that bullies can be brought
to justice would never have entered the minds of many Arabs, but now
they have proof positive that it's possible. Who knows how that might
impact the future? There are plenty of bullies in the mideast. Perhaps
now they're a bit more uncomfortable than they were yesterday.
