We will probably see a lot more....

   ....[1]of this in the future.

British holidaymakers staged an unprecedented mutiny - refusing to
allow their flight to take off until two men they feared were
     terrorists were forcibly removed.
The extraordinary scenes happened after some of the 150 passengers
on a Malaga-Manchester flight overheard two men of Asian appearance
     apparently talking Arabic.
Passengers told cabin crew they feared for their safety and
demanded police action. Some stormed off the Monarch Airlines
Airbus A320 minutes before it was due to leave the Costa del Sol at
3am. Others waiting for Flight ZB 613 in the departure lounge
     refused to board it.

It's hard to judge, from the report, whether the passengers' concerns
were legitimate or based on prejudice, but it hardly matters. The
bottom line is, if people do not trust their governments to do a good
job of protecting them, some will take matters into their own hands.
In part, I blame the growing cadre of people who sneeringly claim that
all the alerts and color codes and terror arrests are trumped up by
their governments in an effort to gain political advantage or to keep
the people in a constant state of fear. These claims foster a climate
of mistrust at a time when people need to trust their governments more
   than ever.
They also feed the growing [2]conspiracy theory crowd who, despite
[3]overwhelming evidence, insist that the government itself [4]blew up
the twin towers, [5]shot down flight 93 and [6]blew up the Pentagon to
   silence intelligence agents.
It's amazing how otherwise intelligent people fall for this stuff,
forcing constant refutations citing reams of evidence, most of which
are promptly rejected as "partisan" or [7]"biased" or ignoring
significant aberrations in the data in an attempt to cover up the
   crime of the century.
There are certain facts upon which all rational people should be able
   to agree.
    1. The threat of terrorism is real and omnipresent. No country in the
       world is immune from attack.
    2. The likelihood of you being personally involved in a terrorist act
is very low. You're much more likely to die in a car accident.
    3. Governments tend to be inefficient and even bumbling at times, but
great enough public pressure will steer them in the right
       direction.
    4. You can expect that a certain number of plots will be broken up
through sheer luck, but that doesn't mean the government has to be
lucky every time in order to succeed. Sometimes luck is the result
       of preparation.
    5. There are a lot of really good people in government working very,
very hard to keep you safe and protect the country from attack.
    6. When you expect your government to keep you safe and then critcize
them for every step they take to keep you safe, you place your
political leaders in an impossible position. Under those
circumstances, many will "play it safe" through fear. That is not
what you want your leaders' motivation to be.
