....[1]obtuse. The AP paints a picture of "Green Helmet" as if he's
your selfless, self-sacrificng aid worker, laboring tirelessly to
rescue victims from the rubble. They even asked him directly if he was
a member of Hezbollah. He, of course, denies it all.
Then there's this.
The baby at Qana died when Israeli missiles slammed into a house â
a response, Israel said, to rockets that Hezbollah fired from
nearby. The building collapsed on two families that had taken
refuge inside. Twenty-eight bodies were recovered â more than half
of them children.
The recovery, as witnessed by an AP team that arrived at the scene
along with other journalists, was exhausting, heart-rending work.
Because of debris from earlier Israeli airstrikes, ambulances could
not reach the site. Rescue workers, tired and sweating, ran uphill
to the ambulances with bodies of women and children on stretchers.
After hours of digging, Daher emerged with the youngest victim. In
a parched voice, he shouted something in Arabic and held the child
up for the photographer.
To many in the West, such photographs are surprising; but they are
not unusual in the Middle East, where grief and drama are often
intertwined, and that can include displaying of bodies.
Bloggers have accused rescue workers and volunteers of showing off
victims for the media. The Lebanese make no apologies for wanting
the world to see the civilian suffering in the Israeli onslaught
aimed at uprooting Hezbollah.
Isn't this amazing? Here, with a completely straight face, AP admits
that the Lebanese pose their dead for photo ops. Yet just the other
day they [2]vehemently protested that they do no such thing.
"......a response, Israel said, to rockets that Hezbollah fired from
nearby." In other words, we don't really believe Israel, but we'll
print what they said. Nevermind that we have photographic and
eyewitness proof that Hezbollah was firing rockets from the roof of
the house. Minor detail. Minor detail. Not really important to our
story.....besides, we never covered that, so it never happened.
"Because of debris from earlier Israeli airstrikes, ambulances could
not reach the site." And yet, we have [3]video of an ambulance nearby,
with a young boy being loaded into it, then taken out and paraded
before the cameras, by none other than "Green Helmet".
This entire "explanation" is a pack of lies. At one time, we would
have accepted it, because we didn't know any different. No longer.
EU Referendum [4]rips the AP to shreds in a blow-by-blow analysis of
their lies and bias. Blue Crab Boulevard [5]nails the AP as well,
writing, "They literally cannot keep their lies straight anymore.
There are simply too many of them." Say Anything [6]astutely observes,
"the techniques journalists apply to the President of the United
States, for instance, stand in stark contrast to the way they treat an
alleged "civil defense worker" who is accused based on some pretty
good evidence of being a propagandist for terrorists."
Look for media credibility to take a further dive, perhaps even into
the single digits. They may have the bully pulpit, but fewer and fewer
are listening. (Hat tip to [7]memeorandum.)
