Iraq's ties to Al Qaeda....

....come under [1]more scrutiny from Mark Eichenlaub, whose focus on
this aspect of the Saddam regime has clarified many issues regarding
cooperation between Saddam and terrorists.
(For those so-called "experts" who insist that a secular Sunni would
never cooperate with a religious extemist, Cori Dauber asks [2]a very
pertinent question today.)
Okay, maybe everyone else figured this out months or years ago and
I just missed it, but you know how everyone takes for granted that
Syria and Iran are working hand and glove in the current crisis?
What does that do to the argument that a secular Ba'athist regime
could never work with those motivated by "fundamentalist" Islam?
Just askin'.
Mark's extensive research reveals the close ties between Al Qaeda and
Saddam and their cooperation on chemical and biological weapons
development. Using copious links to publicly available materials, Mark
shows that those ties were much richer and more productive than was
thought before we entered Iraq.
Schirra reported that hundreds of bottles of acetone, labelled as
coming from Baghdad; weapons, including anti-aircraft missiles
(both of which also reportedly came from Baghdad); 30 kg of
potassium cyanide, stored in hermetically sealed barrels; chemical
measuring instruments; lab equipment; gas masks and C4 loaded
suicide vests were among the items recovered at the camp. Also
recovered was "a handbook, which, on more than 50 pages, contains
exact instructions for building chemical bombs and grenades."
Schirra concludes "it is clear that essential parts of the
laboratory substances came from Baghdad." Likely referring to the
Ansar al Islam laboratory suspected as the source of attempted CBW
attacks in the UK and elsewhere.
The canard of no connections between Saddam and Al Qaeda is so
discredited that only a dishonest person or someone completely blinded
by partisanship could continue to make the claim with a straight face.
What does that say about the media?
