We have gotten so far off track in this country....

....that [1]this passes for logic and many will nod their heads in
   agreement.

Remember Daniel Ellsberg? He leaked the Pentagon Papers, which
detailed how the government had sold us years of exaggerations and
     falsehoods about Vietnam.
Certainly the motive for a leak is a distinguishing characteristic,
but let's not be naïve. Leaks keep Washington hydrated, and most
leaks are about manipulation. Politicians have perfected the leak
as a secret weapon that's used to win allies and destroy enemies,
to win elections or dissuade voters.
But that's the price we pay for keeping the faucets open. That
drip, drip, drip is how we hold our leaders accountable and make
sure they don't start thinking they're above the law.

So.......to keep our leaders honest and hold them accountable, to keep
them from thinking they're above the law, we have to allow people to
   break the law.
I'm sure the person who wrote this was serious about it. And I'm
equally sure that an editor read it and approved it.
   That's the scariest part.
