   ....about life, about me, about blogging, about America. When I
   attended the Milblog Conference I realized that there are a lot of
   "me"s out there -- a lot of people who love America, who live with
   honor (as Steve describes it), who go about their lives respecting
   others, giving of themselves, asking nothing in return, expecting that
   others will live by the golden rule as well.
   Why aren't these people in power? Why is it that the politicians we
   elect are so cynical, so dishonest, so pandering, so disgusting? How
   did we let America be stolen by the liars and the cheats and the
   cynics and the selfish? And what would it take for us to take our
   country back?
   I think the Milblog Conference pointed us to the way. We just need to
   talk to each other. The more we talk, the more we realize how much we
   have in common, the more we realize that we all want the same thing
   (even though we can disagree strongly about the methods.) The more we
   talk, the more the truth comes out, the more the lies are exposed, the
   more the liars will shrink into the shadows.
   For the first time in a long time I feel hope for our country -- the
   spark of something we haven't had for a very long time -- an
   opportunity for the common man to begin anew -- a chance for America
   to become new again. New with the spirit of adventure and enthusiasm.
   New with the excitement of knowing that we can make a difference, that
   America can still be the shining city on the hill, the Camelot we had
   before John Kennedy died.
   I sense a spirit of strength and commitment in the generation now
   fighting -- men and women who, despite all that has happened in our
   country since Vietnam, still believe in America -- still believe they
   can make a difference -- still believe that America and democracy and
   freedom is worth fighting for and that they can win.
   For the first time in a long time I feel good about the future.
