   ....but [1]this one is different -- a new wire service to compete with
   the AP and UPI. The difference? They use real American military to
   report the news, not foreign stringers whose allegiance is
   questionable at best.
   Mark this down. This could be the start of something brand new in
   journalism -- an open source newsfeed with on-the-ground reporting
   from the hotspots of the world -- without all the whining about the
   job being dangerous.
   Just in time for the Milblog Conference too -- which I will be
   attending, by the way. I'm flying to Washington Friday morning. I'll
   spend a couple of hours touring the Heritage Foundation headquarters,
   maybe have lunch with someone special, then drive down to my Marine
   buddy's home in southern Maryland. Saturday is the conference, all
   day, then Saturday evening I'll be back in southern Maryland, mucking
   stalls, feeding the Belgians and enjoying steaks on the grill, cold
   beer, a good cigar and the pleasures of friendship with someone whom I
   deeply respect and who I've had the privilege of calling "friend" for
   several years now.
   This man is a fourth generation Marine, with artifacts of wars his
   forebears have fought in going back a century. Pride doesn't begin to
   describe the feeling of being in his "museum", viewing Springfields
   and helmets from WWI, sand from Iwo Jima and Lugars captured in
   Germany.
   I wish I could take all of you with me.
