It begins:

	The Corps of Discovery has divided. Meriwether
	Lewis and about a third of the party are ascending
	(on horseback) the Big Blackfoot River. William
	Clark and the other two-third of the party are
	ascending (also on horseback) the Bitterroot River.
	It will be more than a month before the parties
	reunite. Historians have questioned the wisdom of
	dividing the party, since it made each part more
	vulnerable. That things worked out doesn't make it
	a wise decision. Clark halted his party for a
	"sumptuous" lunch to celebrate the Fourth of July.
	Lewis didn't mention the holiday. It's been 230
	years since...
